A new year means new regulations that may affect your industry. We've rounded up a few recent and upcoming changes that you should be aware of.
WHMIS 2015
Don't let the name fool you, the deadline for WHMIS 2015 compliance was actually December 1, 2018. WHMIS 2015 incorporates the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for Canadian Workplaces. GHS has been adopted by many of Canada's trading partners, including the United States.

Lithium Batteries
As of January 1, 2019 the old hazard and handling labels for Lithium based batteries can no longer be used. This includes Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Metal cells or batteries as well as those contained in or packaged with equipment. Affected UN numbers include 3090, 3091, 3480, and 3481. TDG Class 9 for batteries placards are now available as well.

Safe Food for Canadians Regulations
January 15, 2019 brings the new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations. According to the Retail Council of Canada, "The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations is the biggest change in food regulation in over 25 years." Changes are numerous so we recommend you check out the regulations for yourself on the Government of Canada website.
