Recently at the National Safety Council Expo in Houston TX, our neighbors to the south announced the top 10 cited violations to their OSHA standards. OSHA is the American equivalent of Canada's CCOHS and deals with many of the same standards and safety concerns.
Patrick Kapust, OSHA's deputy director of Directorate of Enforcement Programs had this to say, "I encourage employers to look at this. These are frequently cited violations. Its what employers should look at in their workplaces". He also indicated that the following 10 violations make up half of all violations.
- Fall Protection - General Requirements
- Hazard Communication
- Scaffolding
- Respiratory Protection
- Lockout/Tagout
- Ladders
- Powered Industrial Trucks (i.e. Forklifts, powerjacks, etc.)
- Fall Protection - Training Requirements
- Machine Guarding
- Eye and Face Protection
